Geotechnical Investigation

Geotechnical engineering uses principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics to investigate subsurface conditions and materials, determine the relevant physical/mechanical and chemical properties of these materials, evaluate, assess risks posed by site conditions, design earthworks and structure foundations, and monitor site conditions, earthwork and foundation construction.
Geotechnical investigation is a procedure that determines the stratigraphy (study of rocks) and relevant physical properties of the soil underlying the site. This is done to ensure that this substructure, which is eventually going to hold up homes, Bridges, Dams, Culvert, etc. is safe and enduring. Geotechnical investigations have acquired substantial importance in preventing human and material damage due to the earthquakes, foundation cracks, and other catastrophes.
